Introduction

Francesco Ristorante ∙ Barbera is a brilliant idea.
A restaurant placed in the heart of the city of Mendoza with beautiful gardens, a VIP lounge and a single wine cellar.

Maria Teresa’s unique distinction and quality certify the best recipes varieties offering delicious alternatives to practice cuisine at home.

Taste, aroma, freshness are the characteristics of a precise list of Italian traditional dishes prepared to invite our guests.

Our exclusive cellar consists of a careful selection of wines and the advice of our expert sommelier, as well.

History

FRANCESCO is a “bellissima”1 idea.

My mother has passed her days enjoying her time around a kitchen for 57 years.

She tells us: “Serving people is a profession. Each day we have a different appointment with each of our guests. Dealing with persons is like touching a soft cloth. All should be treated nicely but not in the same way. Plainly, since every person is special.”

Francesco welcomes in its own house everyone who wants to visit and taste its dishes. Passion, creativity, sensitivity and love inspire each dish which is expressed by means of its taste, aroma and freshness.

Francesco was our home and one day when I was sad, Teresa came closer and trying to encourage me, she told me: “Beatrice, I was thinking… let’s make a ristorante in our house, with a garden, a beautiful garden, bellissimo… All this has been "possitivissimo"2. Let’s welcome people, to our clients, they will enjoy a pleasant time… Let’s make them feel as they were at their own home, in our home.” While she warmly told me about her idea, I stayed lying on my bed; I was still in front of the fear of accepting that challenge. All we know that changes take time, sometimes they are not easy and at the beginning we immobilize because of that possibility… Her words were a stimulus that caught my attention and my sorrow vanished… Suddenly, I was thinking in her project. The idea passed through my mind as images of a Fellini’s movie. I would have to postpone a successful career and to change the course since my destiny was Italy… Her gestures impressed me; I took courage from her. Her self-confidence was the final push to make my decision… The risk of a new business was combined with a nice sensation of being able to stay in this land and to be with the people I love… I could not avoid following her!
So we shook our wounds off and banished fear ghosts, and we started to work.

Today the Barbera family offers Francesco to Mendoza as another house. We hope people that visit us enjoy our home’s tastes and feelings.

María Teresa History

María Teresa Corradini de Barbera:

María Teresa summarizes 57 years of Italian gastronomy in Mendoza. She began to work together with my “Nonna Fernanda”. Fernanda Torresi de Corradini was an Italian immigrant who arrived with her children and with her bravery on her shoulders in 1948. Their solid purpose of being successful made them the first persons who offered Italian food in Mendoza.

Anything occurs by chance. Like a wine is able to spread the trace of those that accompanied it from the vine to the bottle, food is like a union and outcome of a long process in which tenths of persons contribute with their work. Francesco is the exclusive restaurant of the Barbera family where María Teresa puts at the disposal of gastronomy all her creativity and experience. Therefore, the most delicious dish of life grows with the aromas of condiments and the tastes of gratitude to this land: Sharing with friends in the house.

* 1950: “La Marchigiana” Ristorante opens.
* 1954: She marries Francesco Barbera, they have seven children (two of them died.)
* 1968: The Cantina “Da Nonna Fernanda” opens.
* 1969: “Vecchia Roma” Restaurant opens and in 1972 the hotel with the same name opens.
* 1988: “La Marchigiana” reopens.
* 1990: The Chase Manhattan Bar opens in the city centre of Mendoza.
* 1993: “Las Pastas” Trattoria opens.
* 1995: “La Marchigiana” Restaurant opens in the Palmares Open Mall, her son, Fernando Barbera Corradini, is the manager.
* 1998: Farinatta (pasta fast food) opens at the Mendoza Plaza Shopping.
* 2001: The Government of Italy grants her the “Caballiere del Lavoro” award.
* Between 2002 and 2003: The Italy Inn Restaurant opens in Reñaca, Chile.
* 2004: The important Francesco Ristorante ∙ Barbera successfully opens.
* May 2006: La Marchigiana Restaurant of Patricias Mendocinas Street reopens.

As regards culinary teaching, she participates in:

* 1978: Buen Día Mendoza programme broadcasted by LV8 Libertador Radio Station.
* 1979: Corrieri degli Italiani with international cuisine recipes.
* 1978 - 1982: Los Andes Sunday newspaper of the province of Mendoza.
* 1982 - 1984: Mendoza-Hoy Sunday newspaper.
* 1982: She is invited four times to channel 11 of Santiago, Chile.
* 1986: She is invited seven times to Buenos Tardes Mucho Gusto programme, broadcasted from Buenos Aires to all country.
* 1992 – 1993: Special recipes are published in the Primera Fila magazine.
* 1992: She teaches cooking courses in the Women Sector of the Prison and she also teaches to collect funds for Libertas Sport.
* 1993: She teaches one-week special course at the Dante Alighieri Institute.

She taught all the courses for free.

All our salads are served with balsamic vinegar and a choice of 3 different extra virgin olive oils produced in Argentina by the Zuccardi Family. Each variety has its own particular personality and defining characteristics.
